Tomato Onion Chutney is one of the popular chutney prepared in several states of South India. Each state has a small variation to the recipe but in the end it is a recipe full of flavour and is pretty easy  quick to make

Ingredients for Onion tomato Chutney


Onion – 1 large.
Tomato – 2 medium sized
Channa dal – 1 tbsp
Urad dal – 1 tbsp
Red chilli – 5.
Salt to taste
Oil to fry the ingredients
mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
Hing - a pinch

Preparation


1. add oil to a pan. Add  channa dal, urad dal and red chillies and fry till the dal turns golden brown
color.


2,Now add chopped onions. Fry until onions turn light brown. Add turmeric powder, chopped tomatoes, salt to taste and mix. Tomatoes must be cooked until they turn mushy.

2. Transfer the dals to a blender. Then add onion and  fry till the onion is soft. Then add the tomato and fry till the tomatoes are soft.
3.When tomatoes become mushy, turn off the heat and allow it to cool down.Grind the mixture into chutney.Do not add water while grinding.

3. Let mixture to cool for 5 to 10 minutes then add them to the blender and grind.

4. For seasoning fry, the Mustard and curry leaves and add it to the chutney.  The Delicious Tomato Onion Chutney is ready.





5.Spicy and tangy tomato chutney can be relished with Idlis, Dosa and Medu Vadas. It can be refrigerated in a air tight container and used  for 2-3 days.
